Beer muscles into wine territory
June 2008
A booming food and wine tourism industry has triggered a bevy of boutique micro-breweries in Australia’s south-west.
Brew 42 Brewery is the latest in a succession of enterprising beer makers who cater to the growing number of locals and tourists seeking an entertaining dining experience.
Location is an added bonus, with the award winning brewery tucked away in the small south-west town of Allanson. Near Bunbury and the Capel wine region, the brewery makes the most of vistas across rolling hills and open farmlands.
The brewery produces six different types of beer. These include its signature beer, “Brew 42”, named with reference to ‘The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy’; a popular book, which identifies “42” as “the answer to life, the universe and everything”. Another popular brew is the “Red Tail” Irish Ale, a third prize winner at the recent Australian International Beer Awards.
Brew 42, already proving to be a tourism drawcard for the region, is open on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday afternoons.
