More sunshine for Queensland
Self-drive holidaymakers will find exploration of South East Queensland much easier with the launch of a new touring route that links a series of coastal and hinterland highlights.
Promoted collectively under the banner – The Great Sunshine Way – the route starts in Brisbane stretching down to the Gold Coast and hinterland region, and up to Hervey Bay.
The touring route captures the most popular attractions and heritage landmarks of the four major regions in South East Queensland – Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and the Fraser (Island) Coast, combining a mix of city and outback experiences.
The touring guide is packaged as a map, along with information on some of the key attractions and experiences within each region, so travellers can hire a car and plan their journey, staying as little or as long as they choose in each location.
Products along the route can be combined with car hire and Sunlover Holidays accommodation and tour operators, providing agents with a commissionable touring product.
Tourism Queensland suggests travellers will ideally require around 10 days to do justice to The Great Sunshine Way, including time to enjoy the city attractions of Brisbane.
Heading north from Brisbane, the route follows the main roads hugging the coast up to Noosa before dipping inland to the mountains around Gympie. From there, travellers meander their way up to Hervey Bay, which is a departure point for tours out to Fraser Island and whale watching operators.
The south-bound return trip can be combined with an optional route – Australia’s Country Way - that takes travellers inland over the mountain ranges, cutting through famous regional centres, including the peanut capital of Kingaroy, and Toowoomba.
Both routes cover a diverse range of attractions, and can be explored in their entirety, or as separate sections, depending on time commitments and individual interersts.
